What a Vastu check looks at

A Vastu check asks one question for every room: which zone of the home does it sit in, and does that zone suit what you do there? The answer depends on a few inputs:

• **The zone of the room**, found by drawing the compass directions outward from the centre of your home, not from the room itself.
• **The entrance**, because it sets how energy is said to enter and which rooms you meet first.
• **The centre of the home (Brahmasthan)**, which is traditionally kept open, light and free of heavy loads.
• **How much of the room falls in each zone.** A room that only clips a zone counts for less than one that sits inside it.
• **The correct North.** A few degrees of error can move a room into a different zone.

Which Vastu check should you use?

Mistakes that spoil an online Vastu check

• **Using the wrong North.** Use a compass away from steel, speakers and lifts, or the Vastu compass page.
• **Confusing facing with zone.** A north-facing house can still have its kitchen in the wrong zone.
• **Measuring from the room instead of the centre of the home.**
• **Checking only the entrance.** Kitchen, bedroom and toilets matter as much.
• **Reading the whole building instead of your own flat.** Use the outline of your unit.
• **Ignoring the centre.** A toilet, staircase or heavy store at the centre weakens an otherwise good plan.

What this checker cannot do

The quick check reads one room against one zone. It does not draw your floor plan, measure how much of each room sits in a zone, or judge an irregular plot.
