What an Online Vastu Calculator Does

Traditional Vastu analysis involves a consultant visiting a property with a compass, drawing the directional grid over the plan, identifying which zone each room falls in, and comparing that against classical zone rules. Most of that work is mechanical: geometry, measurement and table lookup.

That floor-plan calculator is not the same as an Ayadi calculator (also spelled Ayaadi). Ayadi tests plot length and breadth only — Aaya, Vyaya, Yoni, Nakshatra. It does not map rooms. Use the Ayadi calculator for proportion; use a floor-plan Vastu calculator for kitchen, bedroom and entrance zones.

An online Vastu calculator automates exactly that mechanical layer. Given your floor plan boundary and the correct North direction, it will:

• Locate the geometric centre of the plan (the Brahmasthana reference point)
• Anchor the compass to your confirmed North and draw the zone grid

The practical sequence for most homeowners: run the calculator first to understand your layout and find the obvious issues, then engage a professional only if the results reveal something structural you actually need help with.

What You Need Before You Start

1. A floor plan image

A JPG, PNG or WebP of your house, flat or apartment plan. Quality matters more than resolution:

• Drawn to scale. Zone overlap is measured geometrically, so a plan with distorted proportions produces confidently wrong answers.
• Visible walls and room boundaries. Faint or broken lines make boundary tracing unreliable.
• Flat and unrotated. A photo taken at an angle skews the geometry. Scan it or photograph it square-on.
• One floor at a time. Each level has its own zone map.

2. The correct North direction

This is non-negotiable and it is where most self-checks go wrong. If your plan has a North arrow from the architect or builder, use it. If not, stand in the property and take a compass reading along a known wall, then transfer that angle to the plan.

3. Room identification

A calculator can find zones on its own, but it cannot know that a particular rectangle is your kitchen rather than a utility room. Room-wise scoring depends on you labelling the spaces you care about — typically the main entrance, master bedroom, kitchen and toilets first.

How to Read the Output

Zone maps

Area distribution charts

These show what proportion of your home sits in each direction. They reveal imbalance that a zone map alone hides — for example a plan where 40% of the area is South-West and 4% is North-East has a distinctly heavy, grounded character regardless of individual room placement.

Vastu score

Common Mistakes That Invalidate the Result

1. Guessing North. Rotating a plan 90° changes every zone assignment. This is the number one source of wrong results.
2. Using a marketing brochure plan. Builder brochures are often stylised and not to scale.
3. Including balconies and shafts in the main boundary when they should be excluded, which shifts the geometric centre.
4. Analysing a multi-floor home as one plan. Run each floor separately.
5. Treating the score as a verdict. It is a starting point for investigation, not a pass/fail stamp.

Are Free Vastu Calculators Enough?

Free tools generally fall into two groups. The first asks only for a facing direction and returns generic advice — that is a lookup table, not an analysis of your home, because it never sees your layout. The second offers a limited plan-based check with the detailed zone maps, score or report behind a paywall.

The distinction to look for is simple: does the tool actually use your floor plan geometry? If it does not, the output is the same for every east-facing house in the country and tells you nothing specific about yours.
